Memory Storm Research Paper

Memory Storm Imagine driving down a road, late at night, and not being able to see lines on the road. Looking out the window and seeing nothing but a white sheet. Feeling helpless as to where you are or where the road even is. Driving down the interstate during a blizzard helped me understand everything doesn’t always turn out the way you want it to.
To give some background, Hailey Hershey, my best friend for as long as I can remember, had just moved; my friend Amber and I thought it would be a stunning surprise if we traveled the long two hour drive and went to see her school’s version of “Hairspray” the musical. So, our dynamic duo took it to be our responsibility to beg my mom until finally, she conceded into being our chauffeur. Before

Soon you couldn’t see hardly a foot in front of you even with the headlights on bright. Gliding left and right, the heavy, wet snow was making it impossible for my mom to steer the vehicle. Cars slither like snakes trying to find traction but soon lost hope. Every few seconds you could make out vehicles in the ditch. There were streaming lines of cars everywhere around us that slowed down to about twenty miles an hour, trying the best they could to not hit anyone about the slushy slickness. “Twenty car pileup on highway 30,” the radio blared. Out of nowhere, up over a nonexistent hill, skated a huge charter bus attempting to pass traffic. Drawing near, the bus struggled to pass us, coming so close I could make the licence plate out through the haze. An inch away from the driver’s door, Mom blaired the horn, we all screamed anticipating the impact. Zooming by, the bus barely missed our car’s mirror. By the time the charter bus passed everyone in the car was working themselves into hysterics: breathing hard, eyes wide, hearts beating a million miles a minute.
Regaining her breath, my mom yells, “That was way too close; we could have died. I’m getting off this road right now, if it’s the last thing I do”. “But mom,” I whine. “We have to get to Hailey’s musical, I haven’t seen her in forever. Aren’t we almost

The following article entitled “The Blizzard of ‘93 Seeking to Save Cities and People; Michigan Students, Caught in Appalachian Snow, Learn Lesson in Survival” was initially published in March 16, 1993, written by Isabel Wilkerson. Initially the article tells of a school venturing on their annual expedition to the mountains of North Carolina, thereby establishing a strong character-building maturity, and influence them for life. Despite their aspirations nature acquired different ambition through constructing a blizzard that meddled with the many students and guardians, culminating the atmosphere that enabled many of the vulnerable students who developed hypothermia. Despite this horrendous event it could have been prevented if those students…

"Death on the Prairies: The Murderous Blizzard of 1888" The people of the Dakota and Nebraska Prairies had made it through some bad weather in the past. In a tiny, run-down bar on the sketchy side of town, I sit at a booth with a hardened, grizzled war veteran who was drowning his sorrows with cheap liquor out of amber-tinted shot glass. Consequently,—because of Veteran's Day—in honour of those who served, I was asked to interview Colonel William Cohen McAdams—who served in the army, airforce, and the navy SEALs—for an article in the university paper. He was a decent-looking fellow—for someone who was missing an eye. Ironically enough, he catches more with one eye than anyone else does with two. He lost it to a shrapnel grenade during his fifth and final tour of duty—I’d later learn.…

U.S. Route 52 winds and curves diagonally from the South Carolina coast to the Canadian border in North Dakota. 2,072 miles of pavement stretches through forests, fields, cities, and small towns, but only one one hundredth of a mile means anything to me. In a lonely passage connecting Dubuque to Bellevue, one specific spot shortly after a break in the trees, for one second, allows you to see 180 degrees in every direction. I anticipate it on my drive home and slow down slightly as I approach it.…

Rain slammed against the windshield, and the dark roads became darker, rural streets coated in frozen sleet. I softly swore under my breath, neck craned at an extreme angle to peer out of the inch of clear window I could actually see out of. It had been raining for days, and my distaste for driving in it had lead me to stay holed up in a hotel with Netflix and room service for the past week. My twin had been texting me nonstop for hours, both begging me to return home and telling me not to dare show my face unless I came bearing Nutella. She was such a child sometimes.…

Getting from a to b in has never been easier. With a push of a button and a turn of a key, we’re barreling down the motorway in a comfortable sardine tin with a few pillows that eject in the case of a crash. This all comes to a screeching halt when the first snowfall wreaks havoc on the minds of drivers who struggle to grasp the concept of driving on the white roads, with cars that are ill prepared for the weather. This can be avoided with a bit of time spent on equipping our vehicles with the necessary equipment to make them more reliable, easier to drive and our roads safer.…
