INTRODUCTION
1.1 Project Background
Recent developments in new technology advances are from fruits of labor as a product of intensive research designed to make an important contribution to the care of older and aged people, both in institutions for elderlies and at our home [1]. Various type of electronic sensors, video health monitoring, remote health monitoring and equipment such as body fall detectors, door security monitors, bed alerts, pressure sensitive mats and smoke and heat detector alarms can improve patient’s safety security and ability to cope at home [1]. These assistive devices for elders greatly improve their quality of life and provides an ease of mind for their loved ones.

While it is common for anyone to suffer memory loss as we age, dementia is a condition which is worse than normal memory loss and are usually symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease for older people. The primary difference between age-related memory loss and dementia is that the former isn’t disabling. The memory lapses does not affect us greatly on our daily routine, the effect is so minimal that it does cause for any concern. Dementia, on another note is shown by repeating or persistent memory loss and gradual decline in abilities from our daily routine such as language ability, motor ability and so on [3].
To overcome these problems, the development of assistive devices to care and monitor for the elderly at home or at institutions is proposed. This assistive device is developed using the Adruino platform, the adruino is a simple and easy to use open-source platform. Two types of sensors would be implemented for this project, namely the accelerometer sensor to detect and determine the state of the patient whether he has fallen or not, the second sensor is a GPS tracking system to acquire the location and whereabouts of the patient if he is
