During this day, we went and got toys, games, and even a cat, who was named Smudge, and wasn’t technically allowed in the apartment my dad had to live in. Later in the days to come, my brother and I were very confused, as my mother was unresponsive, and my dad only shouted curses anytime someone said, “Mom”, or “Sheila”, as that was my mother’s name. Because of Oklahoma’s legal system, not only was that as far as he could go, but my mother also still had the majority of visitation. During this time, we hardly saw my dad, but when we did, we enjoyed each other very much, and never spent a moment doing nothing. Truly, those times were the best I ever had with a parent. But, during this time, I also began to stray away from my mother, as this is when I learned that my life was wrecked emotionally for the plight of a woman bored of her husband. As I learned more and more about the cause of the divorce, the more I separated myself from

Throughout my life I have always been a daddy’s girl. I would beg my dad to take me hunting, fishing, golfing, to work, and just about anywhere my dad went I wanted to go. We had a close bond until he was diagnosed with stage 3 liver and colon cancer during my senior year of high school. fueled days and late nights. Even when my mother finally went through with a divorce my dad would try to “win” her back with reminders of how taboo divorce is to their religion and culture. Both machismo and marianismo cultures also emphasize the sexuality of men and women. In terms of machismo, males have an “expansive and almost uncontrollable” sexual appetite (stanford.edu) and it is their right to satisfy that desire in the ways they choose.…

I have not come across anyone who has had a perfect life, and being in the human service profession I especially do not expect to ever find someone who has. As a professional in training I understand that I will be able to someday help others through difficult times in their life like finding a new job, arranging childcare for their children, comforting someone who has suffered the loss of a loved one, or a couple seeking help with their relationship. I also understand that I will be put in the situation to help someone who has different beliefs or comes from a different culture than I have.
