Sitting outside, waiting for my ride back to the hotel room after wasting 3 hours on the golf course during the Teen World Golf Championships. I was disqualified for something that I did not even understand. "How?" "Why?" Before my father could utter his response to my questions, I could not help but think about my family's gardener, Daniel.

A couple months back, It was about 3 O'clock in the afternoon on Memorial Day. As my father is backing the car out of our driveway, taking our entire family to a gathering, Daniel the gardener was knee deep in pungent, mushy mulch. This was not the first time Daniel was working on such peculiar hours. It seemsas though he is always outside on steamy days, as sweat makes its way down his forehead.

You would hope he can retire soon considering his condition and that he already well into his late sixties.

Daniel has taken the hard route in life. He has to work to pay for his treatment and provide for his children, yet at the same time, work is destroying his physical well being which affects everything in his life including his relationship with his

Do we know why? Of course not. In the whole scheme of things, do the whys or hows even matter? In the end, God has a plan for us all. "Ofelly," as Daniel would say, we can hold on to dear life. Unlike a roller coaster ride, in life, we have not a clue as to where the ride will take

The religious and spiritual activist Dorothy Day had a passion for writing. She combined these passions by founding the Catholic Worker, a mixture of journalistic reports, editorials, diaries, and meditations. Day’s “Memorial Day in Chicago” was a journalistic report that is meant to persuade readers to take a stand and advocate for peace. She places guilt on the audiences as she pleads everyone to become their own activist. She accomplishes these by first asking us questions, then placing our own judgments on other countries to our own, next she moves into establishing credibility on the topic, later she shows us where people fall to place the blame, and lastly she directs her writing to Christ.…
