Memorial Day Essay

Decent Essays
Memorial day is the one day of the year when the complaining, the ignorance and the entitlement come to a halt. It is the day when people realize that they are alive because others are not. I have yet to lose a family member who has served but that doesn’t make this day any less special for me. As I go through the cemetery putting flags on each head stone of those who have served I remember. I remember the brave men and women who gave their all for their country. I think of the families, who got a flag rather than their loved one. The children who will grow up without a parent. To me memorial day is the day I remember what most people forget.

In America, we have the right to vote, work, drive and many more activities we can partake in and to this we owe our veterans. It’s because of them that I can walk freely; they inspire me. Throughout their days of duty, they were motivated to fight for their values. They act as a martyr for the country and that’s a job most people are far from willing to take. Most people in America have nice lives and it's because of the women and men who serve for this nation.…

Most people think of Veterans Day as a day off from school or work, well they are wrong. Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S Military Veterans. It coincides with other holidays including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which are celebrated in other parts of the world and also the anniversary of the end of World War I (major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went to effect.) Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day.…

One of the great things about technology is that it saves more lives then we will ever know. Many lives took tolls before technology because we couldn’t sense anything like we do now. We can now see where storms will hit before they’re even a week old and we can announce the news so anybody in danger can seek shelter elsewhere out of the storm’s path. With the technology we have today, we could have prevented many people killed during the storm on Armistice Day. The loss of lives because of the blizzard that hit on Armistice Day back in 1940 could have been, in more ways than one, prevented based how advanced the technology was at the time.…

Veterans play an important role in society today and the history of not only America as a whole, but the people who live in it. They have earned us our freedom and our rights, and even continue to help even after leaving the battlefield, whether by actively playing a role in their community or going on living the lives they earned for America. Having no veterans would signify no victorious battles or even fights to begin with. The veterans that America celebrates show that America stood and still stands for values and independence. They play a key role in history- who ever read a textbook that didn’t mention ferocious warriors or soldiers conquering forgotten cities?- and create our future at the same time.…

Is the government really granting veterans the health care and resources they need in order to survive once they arrive to their home land? Do you think that maybe just maybe the government focuses way too much attention towards funding the military instead of troops that have returned with some kind of disability or mental issue? I believe that the government is making a huge mistake on how they are granting health care towards a big group of individuals who fought for our country and for them not to be able to receive the proper care is a disgrace. These veterans should be established the best of care just for the simple fact that they have fought for our freedom and have gone through tough situations, which could be death related. The government as well does not offer enough…
