Memorandum About Mediation

This memorandum is a recommendation for mediation as opposed to due process in our IEP impasse of sixth grade student GT. Being our next step should be mediation, I feel it is in the best interest and most appropriate for all parties involved — the student, the parents, and the district. Although this does not negate a request from the parents for due process, it gives us the opportunity to resolve our indifferences.
Under mediation, we can prevent having to exhaust a substantial amount of resources, as we would in due process. First, we would have to positively encourage the parents to agree to mediation. Then, we can contact the Office for Dispute Resolution, who is funded under an IDEA Grant, to appoint a case manager. At this point,
