Memorable Moment In Life

Doctors say by the age of seven, most children can remember their first long term memory. Don’t think of me as an over achiever, but I remembered mine at just the age of six. This recollection has broken, haunted, and most importantly grown me. Much too often we think of fascinating memories and very seldom do we think of the gut wrenching ones. Those trapped away memories can be the most humbling and character building qualities that make who you are. Everyone’s personality and the way they handle situations will all reflect on their most memorable moments. Then take those, cherish them, and turn it into something beautiful later down the road. I’ve never felt emptier than that day. Teachers treated me differently; their eyes felt like a dark stormy cloud and I had this constant feeling of guilt over me. I could no longer focus anymore and that showed on my report card. My mom forced me into counseling to talk out my anger, frustration, and sadness. She felt I would be more comfortable talking to someone other than her. I never imagined to be successful at school anymore. I totally gave up and was just waiting for a rescue that never came. I had to rescue myself and I did just that. I came out of my shell at school and the cloud went away. The guilt washed away by all the support from my peers. Back home, Jordan took on the dad role in my life while my mom worked twelve-hour shifts five days a week to take care of the bills. Jordan guided me to have goals, have an open mind, and always look for adventure. Although people may think this is painful to write about, I have taken the pain and embraced it. I’m bold, independent, and a leader. This defining moment has humbled my life and my views on everyone. We don’t really know who we are until we dig deep down, and find out who or what shaped us. I hope everyone learns what makes them unique through memories. Without my family and peers, I would have never pushed to make something of myself.
