A shiver ran across his back as he poured water into his glass. He poured it until it was almost half full and left it there. He started down the dark barely-lit hallway towards his room. The hallway had an eerie feeling like someone was watching him. He quickly turned around but only saw a lonely hallway and the glass of water at the end. He went into his room and started to change. He noticed something off about the bathroom and went in. The scene he discovered was as horrible as finding a decomposed body. He forgot to flush the toilet and now the room was filled with a gut wrenching smell. He flushed it and quickly ran out of his room. He was disgusted at himself as he walked back down the hallway. Pacing back and forth, I pondered how our volleyball fundraiser was going to stay afloat. The council was distraught, unable to acquire more teams, with the tournament in two days. With our advisors and the vice principal leaning towards canceling the event, my council had two choices: get eight more teams to sign up or call off the event. I didn’t want to cancel because I knew that as Junior and Senior year approached, we needed more money to fund our proms and class trips.…

The crisp breeze rustled my hair as I walked out of my house on the fall September day with my dad drilling instructions into my head. It was my first Little League baseball game ever, and my dad wanted to make sure it wasn’t my last. Being seven years old and never touching a baseball was something that had scared me; a lot. I had no idea what to think about this foreign, petrifying, game could possibly be about. The car ride from my house was only a few minutes away from the fields where I would begin my baseball career.…

There’s a little slice of Heaven in Marshall, Texas, where the sun shines through the pines and the sound of cicadas serenade you throughout your afternoon and the lake shines like a plate of polished silver in the early morning sun. When I first came to Camp Fern, I was on my own. Everyone else had known each other for at least two years, so I was the odd one out. In my cabin there was the usual sort. There was the popular one, the attention seeker, the joker, and the one you love to hate.…

What could I clean in my room for Spring Break? I could probably clean the papers lying all over my room that my little sister throws everywhere. My room is very messy with papers that have scribbles on them from my sister. I should also clean my closet because it is filled with old clothes that are too small for me to wear. I can also clean all of my sister’s toys that are under my bed.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

Her first month at her new high school was finally almost over and all Lauren wanted to do was go home and sleep. The past month had been a rapid mix of cheer practice, school, homework, and socializing with little time for sleep. Now thinking of how she wouldn't be able to sleep until after a long night of flips, spins, tosses, and cheering is over, she continued down the hallway towards the roar of students chattering at the lunch tables. Approaching the mass of petite girls wearing the required blue and gold uniform, Lauren was surprised by the dull throbbing that was developing directly above her right eyebrow. As she got closer the pressure had built so that by the time she finally arrived and sat between Nikki and Sammy, the dull throbbing had grown tremendously.…

If I were to describe my life using one phrase, it’d probably end up being an oxymoron like “organized chaos” or “random order.” To the casual observer, my life appears to entail sporadic, eclectic passions that start out strong then fade away, replaced by a new hobby. However, behind this chaotic hodgepodge of obsessions lies a unifying theme: collecting information and expanding my mind. My constant thirst for learning has taken various forms throughout my life. The physical embodiment of this abstract trait is my closet.…

When a person arrives at a certain age in their life there are many events that have been particularly meaningful to them, so then, it follows that there are many events and opportunities available for recollection, in my opinion. Selecting a singular event of particular meaning to write as a recollection therefore becomes a difficult choice for me because I have had many singular events that have been particularly meaningful to me. Each one of these singular events has altered the course of my life each time, thereby, changing who I have become. Some of these events have been wonderful, delightful, superbly magnificent, breathtaking, brilliant, simply marvelous, astonishing, and even joyful; others have been not so great, horrendous, dreadful,…
