When I first opened this written assignment, I expected these two different pieces of art to be totally different from one another, since I had to compare and contrast them. But they didn't give a significant feeling of difference at the first encounter, which means I could not tell apart frome one with another in primary content(Belton, 1996) except for the posture(one standing, one seated) and the number of objects(one and two), since it is literally 'what you see is what you get'. However, after reading the description that came with each sculptures, I could slightly tell the difference of the contents of the two, which have to be the tertiary contents(Belton, 1996), which can be retrieved after combining primary, and secondary contents with the context of the artworks.

According to "The Royal Acquaintances Memi and Sabu" by Metropolitan Museum, Statue of Memi and Sabu is in a common style of that could be easily found in serdab of nonroyal tomb chapels of the Old Kingdom. This Neo-Sumerian sculpture of "Gudea" was made in order to be installed in the great temples of Lagash, while it was undergoing the rebuilding process. According to the article, Gudea was the man who was leading the project. I am not sure what kind of the religion the temple was built to devote to and wheter Gudea was in a position of a religious leader, but it is clear by the inscription on the statue that he was trying to leave his name in the temple by installing the sculpture of himself in

This two-handled jar displayed in the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) in Boston is a very typical Geometric Greek amphora. According to the information of the artwork on the Museum website, this ceramic vessel painted by the Birdseed Painter was made around ca. 735-720 BCE, which is in the late Geometric period, and it was found in Athens, Greece. While there is no particular subject to it, this vessel is covered by geometric patterns in most of the area, and there are two bands of repetitive animal figures painted among them. The painter used the black-figure technique to paint the jar, which was typical at the time.…

It was created in 1982. The sculpture itself is interesting in its shape the objects used to make the sculpture outside of being bent or stretched have remained in mostly their original form. The sculpture itself also sticks out among the other works of art due to its near humanoid shape. Also, due to the features that makes up the sculpture it portrays a female. This sculpture addresses themes of labor, culture, and conflict.…

So this God wanted them to work hard for what they would eat. The statue is a man with a big piece of corn on his head and one hand coming up and one palm with pointing away with just with his eyes closed and mouth open but the place where the statue was found a lot of the building had collapsed and so they do not know if the head is on the right body or not. But it doesn't really matter all that much for the fact that how it looks how we perceive it to look has an idea that we need of what they honored and the past and the narrative that they have shown us what they needed to eat what they found they could live off of in Central America. The Basse-Yutz Flagons (MacGregor,pg 177) bronze flagons found in Moselle North Eastern France…

When first examining the two pieces you may think that they have nothing in common with one another. With further study you realize while they were made in different time periods and for different reasons they have similarities. The first piece of art is “The Journey of the Sun God Re” which dates back to 990-969 BCE and was found on Nespawershefi’s coffin. Art in that time period had religious meanings as does this artwork. This painting depicts the Sun God traveling by boat above a river with a snake slithering through the water.…

At first glance, I was able to tell two major differences between the two sculptures. The Statue of Memi and Sabu has a familiar and friendly look, while the Statue of Gudea is withdrawn and also imposing. I think these two sculptures are opposites in many ways. For the primary details, everything including the medium, color, scale, texture, space, and even texture are opposites. The secondary features help to tell a story as they relate to the larger context of this piece of art.…

It’s a 4th Dynasty Egyptian work speculatively from the Giza, Western Cemetery due to its similarities to other statues discovered in that area and dating 2575-2465 BC. It is a statue that was painted with limestone and represents a non-royal couple. The statue of Memi and Sabu represents husband and wife based on other statues of similar nature. This is supported by the warm embrace Memi the husband gives Sabu his wife and this show of intimacy probably explains why Memi stands with his feet together instead of the usually masculine striding pose where the left leg is slightly advanced. Also, it was discovered that non-couples do not hold each other in such an embrace.…
