Meme Essay Memes are amusing images, videos, phrases etc. that people from all over the world create and spread all over the internet. Memes literally pop up out of nowhere and they show up on social media sites all of the time. They are everywhere and have been popular since the mid 2000’s. Memes are used as a form of a medium that people use to express their creativity and or beliefs. A controversial belief that people typically argue are rights of a particular group of people. Transgender and women’s rights are just one of the many things that people argue. Both of these issues appeal to a person’s emotions because everyone has different views about them. They both acknowledge the fact that although these subjects are debatable, they can be seen in an entertaining way. Both of the topics main goals are to be socially equal to society. By looking at the meme with the man with the white shirt, we can see that being transgender is unacceptable to the creators beliefs because the message has some form of violence. The message of this meme is saying that someone could inflict pain to a person from changing their sex. The creator of the meme feels as if they can change their sons beliefs by beating it out of him. The other meme is showing a man with a gun sarcastically making a gesture about not wanting to discuss women rights anymore. The creator of this meme feels as if women’s rights are over exaggerated. They also feel that they aren’t the only ones hearing about this topic. The person used this picture to ask a rhetorical question to show that a few people digress from the majority. Because they used the picture for the meme, they have to also use its context. The purpose of these memes is to show that being transgender or a woman has some disadvantages.
