PROCEDURE AND OBSERVATIONS
¬ FINDING MELTING POINT OF UNKNOWN SUBSTANCE:
We used a micro spatula to retrieve unknown substance MP-14 from its jar. We placed a small amount of MP-14 on a watch glass and

Many substances have similar melting point as the unknown substance. However, in order to determine if the unknown compound is a pure known compound, we need to mix the two substance together. If the melting point of the mixture is lower than the original known compound than the unknown substance is not a pure compound. If the substances are the same, the melting point will be the same as what we have observed and recorded.
In order to test purity of compound, we need to place both the unknown and known substance on a watch glass using the micro spatula. Next, we prepared a capillary tube using the method descried previously. Then place the capillary tube into the MEL-TEMP on 2-3 voltage and record the observation.
¬ ERRORS WORTH NOTING:

Let the thermometer cool down 15°C lower than the orientated temperature for accurate measurement. Thermometer properly acclaimed with the environment will give accurate data.

RESULTS
**OUR UNKNOWN WAS CALLED “MP-14” BEFORE UNCOVERING ITS IDENTITY**
