Melissa Rosenberg Dialogue

A whole story can be told through the dialogue, and New Moon’s dialogue does the film no favors. The use of atrocious dialogue by Melissa Rosenberg, the screenwriter, only further decreases the quality of the piece and portrays the horrific message that for love the line fades and it becomes acceptable to throw anything away for love. The screenwriter utilizes dialogue to accomplish this task for the first time during the conversation between Edward and Bella where Edward breaks up with her. In this conversation Bella claims, “I belong with you,” then Edward rebuttals with, “you don’t.” She confidently states, “I’m coming” but Edward responds, “I don’t want you to come!” Now lacking confidence she replies, “you don’t want me.” This entire …show more content…
Edward does not understand her decision and questions, “Why are you so willing to give up your soul?” Edwards dialogue in this scene brings up the issue that if Bella would give up her soul for him, she would give up anything. This scene creates the perfect opportunity for the screenwriter to add some dialogue that would steer the watcher away from the central message but instead she only strengthens the idea by bringing up the issue of Bella's willingness to give her soul for love. If only the screenwriter chose to stop messing up the dialogue then. In the ending scene of New Moon Edward asks Bella to marry him. The movie then cuts off without a solid yes or no. However in a voiceover Bella declare the she has “already survived the worst: losing Edward. So I knew I could survive anything...and soon, I’d be like him. We’d face our fate together. Forever.” Even though the focus of this speech centers around the couple's future in her eyes, the first line is notable.
