Melinda Mirror In The Closet

Decent Essays
Melinda puts her mirror in the closet. I think she did this because she is insecure about her looks and she doesn't want to keep looking at herself in the mirror. I imagine this action emphasizes the quote, “don't judge a book by it’s cover” since everyone is labelling Melinda as the creepy girl, who called the cops at someone's party. But no one really knows what happened to her;not even her best friend. Mirrors only show you your outside, not the inside. I think the author used a mirror to represent the people that only care about what you look like, how you dress and not the things that really count.

When in actual fact, Lucy sees the mirror as 'reflecting vibrant life'. To Lucy the mirror is beautiful, as it shows vibrant signs of life 'bits and pieces of India glanced on its surface.' This seems quite rare for people in the C19th, who would not have acknowledged bits of smashed glass as art. They certainly would not acknowledge Lucy's observation of the moment, as appropriate. Most would recognise the mirror as smashed glass.…

She does not know that she is capable of fighting back, yet in the end, she realized she fought back and shouted for help. It shows us that she just have to be strong and start to speak up because if she wasn’t strong and loud nobody could have heard her and she was raped again by Andy Evans. We should believe in ourselves and be strong because if we won’t we might just be in trouble or people won’t know what our backstory…

X Files “Humbug” Dr. Blockhead believes that genetic engineering will change all the freaks and the freaks will become normal like everyone else. Dr. Blockhead does not like this because he believes their deformities make them different from everybody else. I think genetic engineering is justified because no one wants to be stared at and look at differently than everyone else. If, people were created without deformity they wouldn't be bullied because of what they look like. I also believed that it is the child's choice whether they want to be changed or they want to be how they were intended to be.…

    Cléo De 7 Analysis

In Cléo de 5 à 7, Varda follows more closely to the filmmaking techniques that are used by most classic Hollywood cinema. The only major difference, other than the context of the film, would be Varda’s use of temporality by having a film set in a two hour time period and of trying to keep the action of the film almost in the exact lifetime of two hours. It takes the idea of Classical Hollywood continuity to an extreme. Another difference is that Cléo takes on more French political issues such as the Algerian war going on versus commenting on American film habits. Cléo also seems to take on a much more serious tone, even though both films deal with death.…

It is part of human nature to make mistakes and sometimes learn and grow from them, or sometimes repeat them. In “Dr. Heidegger’s Experiment” by Nathaniel Hawthorne, the main themes of youth, new beginnings, wisdom, self image, and repetition of mistakes are exemplified through the use of symbols through the character’s perspective of themselves and their environment. The characters; Mr.Medbourne, Colonel Killigrew, Mr.Gascoigne, and Widow Wycherly are prime examples of people repeating mistakes even when given a second chance to learn and progress. Hawthorne’s theme of in order to grow as a person, one must learn from mistakes and progress as a person is best shown by vivid and explicit symbols; the rose, which symbolizes acceptance of old…
