Melchizek In The Alchemist

In The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho Santiago is impacted by The Alchemist, the crystal merchant and Melchizedek. All of these people taught Santiago something which let him achieve his personal legend. All of these characters played a vital role in him completing his journey.

The first person that Santiago meet on his journey which really taught him something about himself was Melchizedek. When Santiago ,met with Melquisedec, he appeared to be a rich man wearing a golden breastplate but covered with a dark robe. As i said before, Santiago met Melchizedek early on in the story and Melchizedek is the person that is most to thank for starting Santiago on his journey. The way i would describe the alchemist is that he is like a wise man for in his conversations with Santiago he teaches him many things. He is also dressed in complete black, wears a black turban that covers all of his face except his eyes, and a black kerchief. As i said briefly before, the Alchemist acts as a guide for Santiago and they travel together across the Saharan desert where The Alchemist returns to The Oasis and lets Santiago to continue onto the pyramids himself. But it is what the Alchemist tells Santiago when they are together is what really matters. For The Alchemist explains many things to him but the most impactful one is of the nature of his “heart”. Because on their journey Santiago ask The Alchemist about his heart and why is “says” things like turning back from his personal legend and that he is satisfied with the Fatima and his wealth. The Alchemist explains it like this , “Because you will never again be able to keep it quiet...even if you pretend you not to have heard it...it will always be there inside you,repeating...Treason it's a blow that comes unexpected. If you know your heart well your heart well,it will never be able to do that…”(133) This is important because this lets Santiago understand and control his emotions and not let them get in the way of him achieving his personal legend and letting him live a happy life while not ignoring his
