Melanotan 1 (melanotan)
Melanotan I is a synthetic polypeptide which is an analogue of the natural peptide hormone, Apha-MSH (Alpha-Melanocyte stimulating hormone) which naturally occurs within the human body and plays the role of triggering melanogenesis. Melanogenesis is the process by which peptides lead to pigmentation of the skin, hair and eyes, and leads to the tanning process hence it is very essential in the protection of the skin against the harmful UV (ultra violet) radiation which cause skin cancer. Alpha-MSH triggers specific melanocortin receptors (melanocytes) during its mechanism of action leading to production of melanin and also causes effects on lipid metabolism, sexual libido, and appetite through the same melanocortin receptors. Melanin is the skin pigment which offers protection against the destruction of the cells by DNA. Note that skin cancer is initiated by DNA damage.

Due to its high potency, MT-1 has sunless skin tanning effects and numerous studies have been performed in efforts to determine potential therapeutic properties in the protection against the damaging effects of UV radiation from sunlight as a result of its melanogenesis stimulating effects.
Melanotan I is also known as Afamelanotide, Melanotan, Melanotan -1, NDP-MSH, or CUV1647 and its molecular formula is C78H111N21O19. Its systemic name is Ac-Ser-Tyr-Ser-Nle-Glu-His-D-Phe-Arg-Trp-Gly-Lys-Pro-Val-NH2. MT-I is a non-selective agonist of MC1R AND MC3-5R which are melanocortin receptors. MT-1 is more of a natural amino acid where else MT-2 is a super potent analogue.

Melanoma is a type of cancer that is considered one among the most dangerous. Melanoma traces are usually found over the skin, but rarely it can even be found in the eye or even in the internal organs. The main cause of Melanoma is the direct exposure to the ultraviolent (UV) rays. Reducing tanning from sun or from tanning lamps can curtail the chance from Melanoma. For past decades, recovery from Melanoma was a nightmare.…

Even though, melanoma accounts for less than one percent of skin cancer cases, however once people get melanoma, then they will have higher risk of death and one UK study found that estimated 86 percent of melanomas cases are caused by exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun. And on average, a person’s risk for melanoma doubles if he or she has had more than five sunburns. On the other hand, the dangers of ultraviolet radiation only happen when there’s over exposure of radiations. Actually Small amounts of UV are beneficial for people and essential in the production of vitamin D. UV radiation is also used to treat several diseases, including rickets, psoriasis, eczema and jaundice.…

Science Explanation and Added Information Adaptations: 0. (No Pigment - Human): We added in this adaptation to increase the level of survivability of humans. We thought that a reduction in pigment (or increase amount of pheomelanin which causes light skin and hair) would lead to less color in the skin and in the hair (or extreme white hair and skin) which will blend in into the surroundings. With this adaptation, these humans will be less likely to stand out in the snow and they will have and easier time catching their prey. Without this the human would stand out like a paint stain on a white shirt.…

Melanocytes are cells that are responsible for producing and creating melanin, and that is what makes us all so unique. People come in various different shades of color and the reason behind it is melanin. Melanin is the pigment that gives humans the different shades of color for their hair, skin and eyes. Melanocytes is located in the epidermis layer, which is why it is important that we have protection. Melanin is what protects our skin from the effects that one may encounter from the sun.…

Malignant Melanoma is the most menacing type of skin cancer. Unrepaired DNA from UV rays trigger mutations in the skin cells which leads to rapid cell division forming malignant tumors. These tumors are formed in the melanocytes in the Stratum Basal (Basal Layer). Signs and symptoms of Malignant Melanoma include excessive sun exposure, family background of melanoma or skin cancer, changes in mole that have to do with asymmetry, border, color, diameter, elevation/ evolving, along with previous problems of melanoma. Diagnosis of malignant melanoma include a blood count of cells and procedures that involve excisional biopsy of lesion.…

In Miyamuera’s (et al., 2010) study, the effects of various wavelengths of ultraviolet was compared through repeated exposure of human skin to suberythemal doses of ultraviolet A and/or ultraviolet B for two weeks. The study showed that in the ultraviolet B tanned skin; there was a higher melanin content and ultraviolet-protective effects against DNA damage as there was in the ultraviolet A tanned skin. The tanning from ultraviolet A was caused by the photooxidation of existing melanin and redistribution of pigment granules, thus tanning was seen in both exposures of ultraviolet A and B. However, ultraviolet B increases pigmentation coverage and involves the production of new melanosomes, as it stimulates melanocytes to up-regulate melanin synthesis.…
