When reviewing the work of art I start with the actual picture of the women in the bonnet and looking at the symbolism behind her body. The motif that I see running through the picture is that of frustration with the words “mad, unnaturally, insecticides, miticides, herbicides, and fungicides”.…

Smith is popular for creating nude prints and sculptures of men and women, but specifically representing women as figures for reproduction, menstruation, and motherhood. Her sculptures revolve around feminine work and explore the physical aspects of the women’s body. In her sculpture Train, made from wax, a woman stands in a small room with red beads flowing out of her vagina. Reconstruction in the South after the Civil War would prove to be a challenging endeavor for the United States having to literally re-create an entire portion of the nation. This couldn’t be any closer to the truth in the case of New Orleans, where political reform and overhaul of its past principles, was a change that would come slowly and with a lot of time. One incident during the Reconstruction period that helps underline how hard these changes would be to achieve was the kidnapping of Mollie Digby, it is from the early “facts” about the case that help ignite turmoil in the city, state, and eventually the entire country. After reading The Great Escape and Half the Sky and considering each one carefully, I would say that the way Kristoff and WuDunn explains about helping the oppressed people and offering aid, it is more specific and very carefully explained then Angus Deaton. The way that Angus talks about aid is more general, just like giving money to poor countries but not really knowing where this donation will be applied to. For this reason, I would say Kristoff and Wudunn would be right about the foreign aid. The aid help that the Half of the Sky talks about is helping specific causes that are hurting the world’s progress because most of them are crimes against women that are most of the time voiceless.…
