Although Adolf Hitler desired to invade both England and the Soviet Union he was forced to make a decision between the two in the late spring early summer of 1941. Adolf Hitler expressed strong desire in his book Mein Kampf, that he had an underlying objective to invade the Soviet Union. His justifications were to overcome the threat from Jewish-Bolshevik Communism and to gain expanded territory for the German people. Additionally, Hitler believed the German people were a superior race and decided it was best to turn east and rid the Europe of non-German people by means of deportation, enslave, and even death. Adolf Hitler, also believed it was his destiny for the German people to rule Europe just as they had done six-hundred years prior. Furthermore, …show more content…
Additionally, Hitler believed the German people to be inferior and that they were an alien race. Hitler made it known since the release of Mein Kampf that eradication of the soviet people was of enormous priority to the Nazis. Adolf Hitler and the Germans believed that the Soviets were not industrialized, but in fact they were and by the time on the invasion in the summer of 1941 they had amassed around 23,00 tanks. Hitler and Nazis also thought little of the Soviets economy only to find it was much more modern than anticipated. There was also a misconception following Stalin’s great purge of his officer corps and overall military ranks, that they’re army lacked leadership and combat experience. This on the other hand was quite true, do to the fact that during Stalin’s Great Purge, there were over 30,000 Soviet troops killed. The Germans also believed that the Soviets would not expect an invasion due to the signing of the non-aggression pact. I believe this a bit of true and untrue because Stalin like Hitler believed war between the two countries was inevitable however, Stalin also believed that with the pact he had bought time with the signing of the pact and in addition had built up a relationship with the Nazis which in turn led him to believe that an invasion would not be coming anytime

The tactical mistake of Operation Barbarossa was thought to be a Blitzkrieg or ‘lightning war’ as explained in ‘Inside the Third Reich’, “You only have to kick in the door and the whole rotten structure will come crashing down – Hitler” (Speer, 1984). Supporters of Nazi Germany expected a quick victory, as written in Joseph Goebbels’s diary entry (see appendix 2). Germany was seen as unbeatable - as evident in Macha Rolnika’s diary (see appendix 3) where she expressed her fear towards the Nazis - hence their loss to the USSR stripped Germany of its dignity and optimism. The USSR’s relations with Germany deteriorated the moment Operation Barbarossa began with the break in the non-aggression pact (see appendix 4). Weaker nations such as Belgium were fearful that the USSR’s strength might threaten their independence.…

Nazi Germany invaded the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941, in the largest German military operation of World War II. There are a few contributing factors as to why the Soviet Union won the battle against Nazi Germany. I am going to just list a few of the most important contributing factors as to why they won the battle. One of the advantages that the soviet Union had over Natzi Germany is that they were fighting on their own territory this gave them an advantage not only because they wanted to get the Germans out, but also because they had local knowledge. This knowledge of the forests and land allowed them to find food faster, and to find ways through difficult places that the Germans did not know.…

Before the German invasion of Russia (Operation Barbarossa) in the summer of 1941, Hitler and Stalin were allies. While this partnership was partly established in order for Hitler to safely conquer Western Europe, the Nazi leader admired Joseph Stalin. The Communist leader’s ruthlessness towards his enemies caused Hitler to closely study Stalin’s practices. In addition to his admiration for the man, Stalin’s use of Gulags as a means of dealing with political enemies and other undesirables inspired Hitler to later establish concentration camps and labor camps throughout…

Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler were unarguably the two most powerful leaders to ever rule Russia and Germany. The pair spread terror across the Europe as they took power and aimed to consolidate it. Stalin was born in Georgia, which was then part of the Russian empire, and was the son of a cobbler. During his time as a student he began reading Marxist literature and it inspired him to devote his time to the revolutionary movement against the Russian monarchy. He would often get arrested and exiled to Siberia during his time as an activist, however when the Bolsheviks seized power in 1917 he rose through the ranks of the party.…

The disastrous battles that were fought towards the latter end of the invasion drastically effect the moral and brought operations to a halt. Even so, the Germans had already lost this to the Soviet forces (Murray). Throughout the course of Operation Barbarossa, the population of the Soviet Union experienced dramatic casualties and offenses from the German army.
