Mehndi is derived from the Sanskrit word mendhikā. The use of mehndi and turmeric described in the earliest Hindu Vedic ritual books. It is also traditionally used for special occasions like holidays, birthdays and weddings in Africa, Pakistan, India, and the Middle East. In the early 1900s, is when the religious henna symbol Americanized into what is now known as the henna tattoos. Henna tattoos are now used as art, designs and even pictures. Which deletes the true importance of the Henna. Another cultural appropriated symbol is the Hamsa Hand and the Bindi. The Hamsa Hand is an ancient Middle Eastern amulet symbolizing the Hand of God. In all faiths it is a protective sign. It brings it's owner happiness, luck, health, and good fortune. The hamsa hand has a variety of different spellings which includes hamesh, hamsa, chamsa, and khamsa.The Bindi is a red dot worn on the center of the forehead, commonly by Hindu and Jain women; which is also used to represent culture and the universe. The Bindi has lost most of its cultural meaning due to that fact that it is now a shiny red sticker to use just for a costume. The Hijab is a head covering worn in public by some Muslim women. Many celebrities such as Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Hillary Clinton, Kim Kardashian, and Angelina Jolie, have been seen in a Hijab. Even though they may have had the attentions of appreciating the religion, the concept is still appropriation. First, the Hijab is veil traditionally worn by Muslim women in the presence of adult males outside of their immediate family, which usually covers the head and chest. When celebrities or non-Muslim wear the Hijab they use it for a fashion state even letting strands of hair out, which ruins the whole aspect of the Hijab. Second, when non-Muslim wear the Hijab, they use it for solidarity purposes. The best way for unity, is to support Islamic business, and fight for victims who are publicly harassed.
