Dave Eggers introduces us to a society that is searching for what they believe to be “total freedom”, while Megan Boler provides readers with examples of media in democracy and how freedom is portrayed in each form. Both sources allow the audience to see that freedom does require a balance of control. A world with total freedom would instead lead to a society with many feeling violated, this is why there needs to be some level of external control exerted on citizens. What needs to be found and determined is that proper balance of freedom, and how to address this balance with citizens of each and every community. Throughout The Circle, the audience is introduced to …show more content…
As she allows them access to her families past she begins to feel the pressure of actions they made (432). Freedom is not about being blamed for what relatives have done in the past. Instead freedom allows citizens to create their own legacy, free of any negative actions your relatives may have made. This is truly something that separates a democratic society from other government regimes. In the end, others are made aware that “total freedom” is truly the opposite of freedom. Through the character of Ty, the audience is made aware of a plan to help create more freedom by still having some external control. He states, “We must all have the right to anonymity. The barrier between public and private must remain unbreachable. We must all have the right to disappear”(490). He backs this up with an example of the fish tank and how the company is not trying to create total freedom instead they are trying to control. By them having full control they are no longer democratic and citizens are no longer free. This showing that some government control, voted on by the citizens, is

On March 16th 2017, Natalie Daguiam delivered a persuasive speech to the Speech 2001 class of 25 people at Western University on why sugar is an addictive substance using a PowerPoint presentation as a visual aid. Natalie began her speech with some effective hooks, noticeably grabbing the attention of the audience. This was done in a two-step process, in which she first asked the audience “How do you live a good life?” a general question which seemed to attract some audience attention. She then transitioned into her topic by showing very spectacular and indulging images of sweet desserts while describing how delicious they are, effectively using visual rhetoric to grasp the attention of the remainder of the audience and enhance the pathos of her speech.…

More Canadians than ever seem to prefer flying out of U. S. airports to reach their destinations. This is largely due to the cost efficiency of catching a flight from a facility such as SeaTac Airport instead of a Canadian airport. If you are driving to SeaTac to catch a flight, you probably wish to find a parking facility with affordable rates, and you’ll certainly want to be sure that your car is left in a safe place. Like countless fellow Canadians, you may well appreciate the low prices, convenience, and other benefits of leaving your vehicle at an off-site SeaTac Airport parking lot, such as Aeroparking’s Park & Fly lot. Quick Access to SeaTac Airport One of the top benefits of long-term parking with Aeroparking is the quick trip…

If the Newseum is torn down, the first amendment will not have a place to be celebrated just for itself, so there will be no place to celebrate the first American Constitutional freedom. President Trump is pressuring Congress into passing a bill that will start a project to make room for new monuments. The project will consist of tearing down monuments that the government feels are unnecessary. The project will ruin DC and the American spirit. If the bill does pass, the Newseum should definitely not be torn down since it is a reminder of what America is, it will have horrible economic effects on the country, and tearing it down will diminish the American spirit.…

Deanna, leggy, beautiful, and daring, came a long way from a rugged childhood and the time of liquor bottles aimed at her mother’s head. So said a Washington Post reporter in 2008, “Councilwoman Deanna Flin is a fresh face and a breath of fresh air in D.C. politics.” In the eyes of her colleagues (boozing old school boys with potty mouths and potbellies), she personified Hillary Clinton, the little engine that would, if she could, overturn the political status quo. “Too big for her britches,” said one, which struck Deanna as funny, but not in the ha-ha-ha way.…

Jane Elliott was, by far, the most controversial speaker that I have heard at Texas A&M University-Commerce. On October 4th at the Sam Rayburn Student Center, she fiercely discussed the racism that is woven throughout our American culture, and she started by mentioning that children in America are taught to be racist from the day they are born. She used strong, and sometimes inappropriate language, which bothered me initially, because it can imply lack of professionalism. As her speech continued, I realized that her use of strong language was only helping her more efficiently convey her thoughts. One of her main topics was the importance of voting, and she emphatically endorsed Hillary Clinton for the 2016 presidential race.…
