Most of you here probably have heard of the mediterranean cuisine, but do you know when it grew to fame? how? and most important of all, about it's salad?
The Mediterranean diet has existed for the last 5,000 years but much of its fame is attributed to this particular book. The book was titled, get this, “A Book of Mediterranean food” by Elizabeth David, a cosmopolitan, middle class writer. People there, even though they lived on rations (at the time) used their imaginations to savour these dishes. They didn’t have to do this for long because eventually the ethnic ingredient started shipping into the English ports. Soon people were able to cook from the cookbook and its ingredients like olive oil, garlic, basil, aubergines, figs, pistachio nuts, garbanzo beans and foods like hummus, ratatoille, paella and gazpacho. Even celebrity chefs here and abroad took advantage of her inspiritational recipes. Today, like those celebrity chefs on T.V., I will show you how to make an elegant and refreshing Mediterranean salad. For the salad itself not much is known in terms of where the idea originated. But for starters the traditional Mediterranean salad consists of basically feta cheese, lettuce, cucumber, tomato, onions, and olive oil. Now, there are multiple variations including the Greek version that uses thinly sliced cucumbers as opposed to lettuce and also uses olives.
