Well, scholasticism is basically a way of thinking and solving and framing problems. In the book it defines scholasticism as a new method for solving and framing complex theological and philosophical problems. The reason why is is called scholasticism is because it originated from medieval schools. Another thing I would mention in my definition is scholasticism can be heavily based on questioning. The monk Anselm taught that the human mind can combine knowledge from education and experience with divine revelation. For this to work you would have to have faith in God and training. If you question God or any divine figures, then you aren’t really combining this knowledge. So I would define scholasticism as a form of thinking where you must question these problems rigorously to try and solve them. They wanted better trained clergy and administrators for the church. They would set aside at least one school teacher for each church. Education wasn’t really seen to be used for other means. Soon after they began branching out. The governments needed trained and educated men to help them. This led to the trivium or the three ways. They included grammar, logic, and rhetoric and once this was mastered the person can move onto doing basic clergy duties. One thing to note was that these schools could only be attended by males. Females were not allowed to attend. This pathed the path to education in the Middle Ages. From here it could only get better, and it
