Medication Storage Room Policy Analysis

Improved Essays
It has come to our attention that the doors to the medication storage room are being left open again. This is a violation of the clinic’s policy. This policy is in place to secure medications so that unauthorized persons cannot access them.
To ensure that everyone understands the clinic’s policies and procedures (P&P), a sign-off sheet has been put into the front of P&P binder. Please read through all the P&P’s and sign off that you have read them by December 7, 2016.
If you have any questions or suggestions about these P&P’s, please let me know.

The third component will begin in July 2017, which involves understanding our Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and hiring a trained professional who has extensive knowledge pertaining to MIPS. In this activity, the practice manager will need to research and attend seminars to understand how to retrieve data from eClinical so she may report the quality measures for each of the eight physicians. To prevent a HIPAA violation when disposing of PHI, the healthcare facility must have a written policy documenting the proper procedure to follow when disposing PHI, and schedulers must be trained on HIPAA rules and regulations on an annual basis. Additionally, many offices keep separate containers for collecting and shredding PHI. In a recent settlement, Cornell Pharmacy in Denver, Colorado agreed to pay $125,000 to settle potential HIPAA violations after a local news reporter found patient information in an unsecured container (DHHS, 2015). According to the DHHS (2015), Cornell was cited for failing to safeguard PHI, failing to implement written policies and procedures, and failing to train the workforce on the Privacy Rule.…

Medication reconciliation exceeds far beyond ambulatory clinics in full responsibility with patient safety concerns as evidence based practice research recognizes, perhaps due to lack of dissemination. Health care organizations, networks, represented among: clinics, hospitals, urgent care, and fast care services contribute in one point or another to serving patients medically in prescribing medications. Providing a wide range of care to patient’s is as much as an asset as well as a danger with medication lists not reflected accurately due to electronic health records not reciprocal to all organizations at the time of care patients rely on. Schnipper and Labonville, both pharmacists, overcome health care setting barriers by generating awareness,…
