Medical School Admission Essay Sample

Studying at medical school was a privilege that I never took for granted. I grew up eager to make a difference, and entering medical school helped to make my dreams a reality. Day by day, I began to strengthen my scientific knowledge and appreciation of what it means to be a good physician. However, as I matured with my training I began to see the artistic approach of medicine, and thus what it means to be a great physician. Throughout my studies I have been driven to incorporate these key tenets into my practice; namely compassion, empathy and the humanistic care of patients. At times it was a challenge, I drove long distances, from state to state, from rural areas of the north and south to large metropolitan areas in the mid-west, but it was always worth the effort. I had incredible opportunities across the country to interact with patients of different backgrounds and cultures. I loved the challenge of not only helping them medically with my diagnosis, but also listening to their background and how it shaped their medical history. My patients were unique and provided me with a constant reminder of why I dreamt of becoming a doctor throughout my childhood. Whether it was a teenager with a rare diagnosis of Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome, or an elderly jazz musician with chronic renal failure, I found huge satisfaction in working with a myriad of medical difficulties.
