Making medical marijuana legal across the entire United States could give our economy a boost and save billions of dollars. There would be a considerably lower percentage of convictions from purchasing marijuana illegally because the people who need it for treatment would now be able to go to their physician. Trafficking and possession arrests would be significantly eliminated and our incarceration costs would decrease. The money saved would enable us to open up more dispensaries and create millions of jobs across the nation. More banks would be willing to work with the people that run the dispensaries, which would allow businesses to accept credit and debit cards instead of having to run a cash only operation.
Some people are against medical marijuana being permitted because they fear extensive legal and social problems due to abuse and availability to children. Some also believe that the fight to legalize marijuana for medicinal purposes is just a gateway to making it acceptable for recreational use. However, the legalization of this medicine would do just the opposite. Lawmakers would be able to have control over who dispenses and receives the marijuana, cutting out illegal practices from drug cartels and make it available only to patients who have been medically diagnosed and have a necessity for
