Medical Field Admission Essay

Working in the medical field was my dream since I was a little girl. My desire grew when I took anatomy my junior year. My anatomy class educated me on how complex the human body is; from each cell to the organ system, they worked together to form one complex organism. At first, I was contemplating what area of the medical field I wanted to pursue; then, my anatomy class went to an open-heart surgery, where we witnessed a live surgery at Advocate Christ Hospital. This surgery demonstrated the significance of each person in the operating room: from the surgeon to the nurse. I realized the importance of nurses is equivalent if not greater than doctors. Nursing is my intended field of study.
RNs do not receive as much credit as they should.

Over the raucous noise of people chatting and drinks being served in a small cafe, Ron Eschete, a jazz guitarist, swiftly strummed a solo to the song "How high the moon." He appeared to be in a state of meditation, with sweat dripping down his brow and eyes sealed shut. While in complete synchrony with the band behind him he spontaneously composed a beautiful melody filled with complex rhythms and syncopations. As a 17-year-old high school student who grew up playing classical piano and violin, I wondered: how is he able to create a piece like that out of thin air? What was going through his mind as he developed these ideas?…

The field is always growing and changing and I yearn to undertake in this lifetime of learning. I find it so exciting that one day I can serve people by improving their health and do so using cutting-edge technologies, some which may have yet to be invented. I may not be able to change the world on the whole, but small actions can have a big influence. I look forward to creating a positive impact on a personal level, treating holistically and compassionately, as this is a career path that calls for an understanding of the human experience as much as it does an understanding of the human body. It is this interplay of science and service that makes medicine so unique, so compelling, and so fit a profession for me to…

For as long as I could remember, I’ve wanted to be in the medical field. As an aspiring oral surgeon, an avid lover of serving the community, and a fun loving girl always searching for the next adventure, I am extremely grateful for the academic, extracurricular, and community programs I have been involved in throughout my lifetime. When we moved to Texas, one of the first things they told us about was the Northwest Independent School District pre-professional academies. My heart skipped a beat when I learned of the existence of the Academy of Biomedical Sciences and another when I got my acceptance letter in the eighth grade. Two years later, as a second year member of the program, I have been given the opportunity to run centrifuges, undergo extensive micropipette training, and dissect a number of organs including the brain and heart, amongst many other hands-on activities.…

Also, I am from Toms River, New Jersey, which is only ten minutes away from Seaside Park and Seaside Heights, where the television show, Jersey Shore, was filmed. We are all born with an innate sense of curiosity that presents most clearly in childhood. Throughout my childhood I was easily occupied playing doctor and nursing my stuffed animals back to health- my dad always joked that it was practice for the real thing. I often spent my afternoons only half watching the medical dramas my mother always had on the tv. I only bothered to pay attention to the “good parts” which consisted mostly of the more graphic surgery scenes. While my mother would cringe when presented with the blood and gore I was drawn in, the concept of surgery intrigued me.…

After observing many hours of nurses helping their patients I knew this would be the perfect profession for me. Ultimately, there were a lot of interior and exterior experiences in my life that narrowed down my future career choices to being a nurse including those that came from my responsibility…
