(Is Marijuana Medicine) This medicine can be used to treat Glaucoma of the eye. This would relieve the pressure that is put on the eye. The effects are that it will slow the progression of this disease. Medical Marijuana has been seen in a study in 2003 to control epileptic seizures. (Loria, 2014) The active ingredients control the seizures by binding to the brain cells that are responsible for excitability. Medical Marijuana has the chance to decrease the signs and symptoms of Dravet’s Syndrome. This is a disease that causes a person to have multiple seizures a day and cause development delays. (Loria, 2014) Medical Marijuana has been proven to help this disease in a 5 year old girl named Charlotte. Charlotte suffers from Dravet’s Syndrome. She is treated with a type of medical marijuana that is low in THC. THC is the chemical that is in the Marijuana plant and provides the “high” factor to people when using this drug for reactional purposes. This type of medicine acts on the excitability cells and quiets them to help diminish her seizures. (Loria, 2014) There has been a chemical recently found that could stop the spread of cancer. The chemical is called Cannabidiol. This chemical is said to turn off the gene in cancer that is called Id-1. Turning off this gene will stop the spread of cancer essentially. This has been tested in breast cancer. The results were shown that the spread looked to be less aggressive. Decreasing anxiety with the use of this medicine has been found. It always can decrease nausea and side effects of chemotherapy. (Is Marijuana Medicine) The chemical in Marijuana, THC slows the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. THC slows the formation of amyloid plaques by blocking the enzyme in the brain that makes them. These plaques are what kill brain cells and cause Alzheimer 's disease. Marijuana also eases the painful muscle contractions that occur
