Medical Case Study: Resident Lopez

Incident:
On Wednesday, February 17, 2016 nurse’s aide Thompson found resident Lopez lying on the floor at approximately 9:30pm. When Thompson went to assist Lopez she noticed the resident had bruises on her legs and three possibly fractured fingers. Thompson asked Lopez what had happened, but Lopez did not remember. Once the resident received proper medical care, some investigating was done.
The janitorial staff and aides that were scheduled at the time did not hear or see anything. The bed check charts were checked and Thompson had initialed each of them every hour on the hour, as she is required to do.
Sunset Estates’ employees and residents are aware that incidents may occur at any time. However, it is our duty as a nursing home to
