Medical Case Study Essay: The Effects Of Alcohol Abuse

As a result of drinking three pints of vodka a day, alcohol completely destroyed Ryan's body and sadly it ended up killing him. Ryan’s body became completely dependent on alcohol to function and suffers from several effects of alcohol. The most immediate response to Ryan’s constant drinking is regularly vomiting, sometimes even with blood. Besides this, Ryans organs are screaming from the inside out. This constant vomiting, especially with blood is a sure sign he is suffering from liver and pancreas damage. Furthermore, Ryan’s digestive system is severely damaged. He can not eat without extreme pain. As a result, Ryan would only eat 3 times a week, if wasn't forced by his family members, causing him to be severely malnourished. Ryan is having a hard time eating because his pancreas is inflamed and severely impaired. When eating it causes the pancreas to work overtime to processes the food and toxic enzymes. Which is why Ryan experiences extreme pain when he eats. Additionally, the vomiting and painful eating is a result from a scared liver. Obviously, the treatment facility did not help Ryan. I suspect the treatment facility did play a large role in Ryan’s death. Yes, I believe Ryan may have been too far gone and too ill for recovery. But, I also question if the facility knew how to handle a case a severe as Ryan’s. Perhaps they didn’t give him enough drugs to cease his withdrawal symptoms. I only say this because 17 days is an extremely short period, meaning Ryan was still trying to get clean. He seemed to have managed for a long time at home. The doctors in Dallas did express Ryan could die, but to me, they made it sound like Ryan had a chance to turn it around. Hence, if the treatment center did know how to handle Ryan, he may have
