As a medical assistant, we will have to talk about certain topics that may make a patient feel uncomfortable. For example, when talking to a patient about their reproductive health history. It is our job to obtain pertinent information about our patients for the physician. When talking to our patients, we need to be kind and professional. It is important that we also inform our patients that we need them to speak truthfully and that anything they say will remain confidential due to HIPAA. We can allow our patient to take their time while speaking about anything that may be sensitive to them, such as any topic relating to the number of pregnancies they have had.
