Hospital is an institution which provides medical and surgical treatment where nurses care patients in order to improve their health condition. Despite that sometimes, patients’ may develop infectious disease while receiving the health care facilities through various invasive procedures. Nosocomial infection is infection which is acquired in hospitals setting to the admitted patient which may come in sight after 48hours of admission or within 30days of discharge (Tagoe et al., 2011, p. 22). Ventilator associated pneumonia(VAP) is one of the common nosocomial infection in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where patients develop lung infection due to use of the machine called ventilator. A study of Galal (2016, p.9) revels the incidence of ventilator associated pneumonia with 21.3 cases per thousand 1000 ventilator days which is also further supported by the study carried out in Egypt and has incident rate of 31.8 per 1000 ventilator days. Out of 4,479 patients 685 (15.3%) developed pneumonia within 30 days of ICU admission, as a consequence the risk of mortality rate is high with 33% as compared with patients free from ventilator associated pneumonia 24.3% (Timsit, Zahar and Chevret, 2011, p.469). On the other hand, there are other risk factors that may increase the cases for developing ventilator associated pneumonia.
