Would it not be great to be able to prevent conflict altogether? Not having to resolve any disputes, or differences, and having complete harmony. It would be amazing; however, conflict is part of life. We may not be able to prevent it all the time, but we can be prepared to resolve it in the best manner possible. Authors, Ken Sande and Kevin Johnson, share their knowledge in their book titled, Resolving everyday conflict, providing a Christian view on conflict resolution (Sande & Johnson, 2011).…
Chapter 11 talked about conflict management. While reading this chapter pseudo conflict stood out to me. This reminded me of a very strong disagreement my boyfriend and I have. There hasn’t been a lot of conflict or disagreement in our relationship, but the one thing we do not agree on is what the word “sweep” entails.…
Hey Haleigh, I really enjoyed reading your post. I agree with Karl Marx, that society is determined by economic organization, particularly the ownership of property. In today's society, people think power is everything. People with power, think they can get alway with anything. In my opinion, it should not matter if you are rich or poor, everyone should be treated equally.…
There is a big difference between conflicts and challenging behaviors, especially in the classroom. Conflict is “an expressed disagreement between children, usually involving property, territory, and/or privilege; or a mistaken behavior by a child or children, disagreed with by a teacher” (Gartrell, 2014, p. 512). Conflict is a natural and daily occurrence. While challenging behavior is define as “conflicts that cause harm or serious disruption; the term often connotes a continuing pattern of such conflicts shown by individual children” (Gartrell, 2014, p. 511). Challenging behavior is not usually found as an everyday occurrence.…
On September 07,2015 at approximately 7:22 PM I, Deputy Bowring, was dispatched to 108 Sells St. Yantis, Texas regarding a verbal dispute. Upon my arrival, I spoke with Marklin Scott, who stated that Jay Sells had threatened him because Marklin had not paid his rent. Marklin stated that Jay told him that he was a bad mother fucker and he would get his rent money one way. After getting Marklin’s statement I made contact with Jay at his residence on county road 1700. Jay stated that he did go over to Marklins residence which is his rental property to try and collect rent.…
How Conflict management affected my life. Conflict Management has really affected my life because i live in a house full of girls. We hardly ever get along and when we were talking about creating safety i was amazed because i didn’t really know how to do that. I didn’t want to start doing it until things got out of hand. I learned that silence or violence wasn’t the best choice.…
1 Communication changes us in many ways, it helps us resolve conflict, state our opinion, and it helps with our mental health. The way it helps us resolve conflict is by allowing us to openly talk about the issues we have with whoever/whatever is causing the conflict to occur, this allows us to find a way to resolve the issue and move forward. By stating our opinion, we can give others ideas on a task at hand, or just being openly creative. The way it helps with out mental health is it lets us discuss our problems, it’s never good to keep emotions bottled up inside, if we do it can have a huge impact on our mental state. The more we communicate the better we understand what people are going through, or if they have anyissues with someone,…
Confrontation Versus Accommodation Desmond Tutu says “If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chose the side of the oppressor.” Scout, main character of the novel To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and Skeeter, main character of the movie The Help by Tate Taylor, both demonstrate their agreement to this statement in different ways. To Kill A Mockingbird takes place in the 1930s during the Great Depression and Jim Crow laws. Discrimination and prejudice thrives in the small, Southern town in which Scout lives.…
For many years, people have encountered conflicts and gone to war. Many people respond to conflict differently depending on how they handle different things. Some people are more peaceful and do not like to fight, but others are more violent and prefer to get revenge and engage in the fight. Some of the different responses to conflict can be harmful to you or others in different ways. In some cases, people give up too easily and they lose everything and other times they might get too violent and end up in more danger than they started with.…
I always viewed myself as a person who handled conflict in a compromising and collaborating way, however according to the Thomas-Kilmann test I actually identify more with the competing and collaborating. With that being said, I was surprised to match up to one my conflicts I tend to strive for which was collaborating, despite this my second top was competing. In all reality I figured I would most likely match up with competing. Even though knowing that deep down I was still shock that it was one of my top two conflict resolution styles.…
Gannon Holmgren September, 23, 2015 Prof. Mooney Conflict Theory MW Class Conflict Theory Conflict theory suggests that human behavior in social contexts results from conflict between competing groups. There is a lot that this theory needs to have covered and it ranges from the history, a detailed explanation, examples of the concepts, and a reflection to the theory itself. In order to have a good grasp on what exactly conflict theory is trying to prove a variety of topics will be discussed. At the very core conflict theory can be described as by two groups in a disagreement that eventually settle for an alternative outcome through controversial means.…
Conflict is defined as a difference of ideas or opinions. In a team or organization consisting of people from different backgrounds and with different skills, perspective and experience, it is possible to form some conflicts. Completing the assessment on conflict management I was able to determine my conflict management style from highest to lowest. My highest conflict handling style was compromising with avoiding being my lowest. During the assessment questions I based my answers on how I would handle situations at work. At work I approach conflicts in a manner in which is best for the company, achieves a long term solution and what option is the most financially feasible. At times this means compromising to achieve the best results or collaborating with other departments.…

A civil conflict has traditionally been defined as “a war between political factions or regions within the same country.” However, it is equally important to take into account conflicts that are peaceful in nature, including religious tensions, non-violent political movements(e.g. imposition of a strong ideology: the war against communism in general for example, although it did contain elements of violence in certain regimes) as well as referendums. In light of the formal definition of a conflict, which is “a serious disagreement or argument, typically a protracted one,” perhaps it would be more suitable to understand the term as any prolonged significant dispute over major political, religious, social or monetary issues between two or more influential parties that will affect a large number of people in any given country, and where force may not necessarily be involved.…
