Media's Influence On Relationship Infidelity

The opinion I have on relationship infidelity is that given the right place, time, and circumstances most people will cheat on their partner. I first realized I had this opinion my freshmen year in high school. I had just began my first relationship with another and in the beginning it was great; slowly I developed trust issues, It was those trust issues that would cause the end of that relationship. Again in my freshmen year of high school I entered a second relationship, again trust issues arose those trust issues turned into another failed relationship. Relationship infidelity is something that is widespread in todays society so it is more openly talked about, in talking with my friends I have noticed that two more of my friends share this opinion with me, even though none of us have ever been cheated on. …show more content…
Many major television programs such as 30 Rock, The Office, and The Sopranos have all depicted lovers breaking their commitments and joking in other affairs either without or with getting caught. Hip-Hop Rap music today was also a catalyst for influencing my opinion on relationship infidelity. Many songs feature lyrics about affairs and cheating, these songs seem to glorify the act. Twitter has also been a place where widespread media of relationship infidelity is posted. In order to get ahead and succeed in life, many Americans in our society today are throwing away their morals and creating what is named by Callahan as the "Cheating Culture". In the preface of his book, he claims that Americans who choose to cheat within this culture are welcomed and praised. It occurs in a variety of areas including business, sports, and education. This has resulted in what is described as a "Winner-take-all-society" in which everyone has become more competitive. Throughout the book, Callahan explains the problems that have lead to the development of cheating as a norm with the use of numerous examples from corporate scandals to situations that happen in everyday life like downloading free music.…

Envision a time period when everyone was afraid to be true. To open up about who they really are without being judged. Being forced to live as someone they’re not due to the fear of severe punishment. Some may argue that a society like so doesn’t exist but in reality, people are living in a society just like it. In other words, the world we live in today is built on Puritan roots, influencing the discriminatory mindset towards people and their behaviors.…

The stories the media exposes almost constantly depict men being unfaithful to their significant other. They do not receive the same treatment that men do when it comes to this. Sadly, this adds to the shaming of women especially when it comes to these situations. There seems to always be a difference between infidelity committed by women and men. Infidelity committed by woman leads to social media agreeing that being unfaithful is not of female…

Summary 1: “Cheating Lessons, Part 3” In his essay “Cheating Lessons, Part 3,” Assumption College English professor James M. Lang continues the argument of his two earlier essays: faculty can help reduce their students’ (sophisticated word usage) propensity to cheat though better course design, including more effective evaluative and pedagogical practices (run on). In this particular essay, Lang makes the specific case that frequent assessments reduce cheating and increase learning. Lang begins his argument by informing readers that college students currently cheat and have cheated for quite awhile. Lang cites research from 1963 in which 75 percent of college students reported cheating and research from 2002-2010 in which 50-60 percent…

The article by Rob Lynch entitles “How Media Relations is Similar to Dating,” takes a interesting look at our profession. While the author takes a lighthearted approach to showing the similarities of dating and media relations, he creates an interesting dynamic. One of the more interesting points the author made was the way individuals make connections. The way this is done in media relations is strikingly similar to the dating world. This is because not only does it call for an exchange of contact information…

Teenagers desire to have a slim body and to be beautiful such as women in media. The media is the most powerful influence on teenagers’ sexual behaviors and attitudes because the media emphasized the slim body of woman in advertisings. Also, the media tend to impose that women should be thin, which can harm adolescent girls who are unable to achieve the highly idealized shape of models. When teenagers think that their body seems different than the models in media, young people are not only losing their confidence but also being afraid of standing in front of people or encountering people. The author stated that the young girls are influenced on the images of skinny women even if they do not want to be because they are insecure about their appearance when they are not skinny (Bowdon).…

In the two videos the discussion topic is cheating, however it is two different approaches and solutions to the same problem. Cheating is wrong, but it is a part of the human experience and almost like a second nature to a large portion of humanity. In the first video you have lots of little clips about how bad the epidemic of cheating is filling the minds of our youth and corrupting their minds while dishonoring our countries militaries code of ethics which the video wants us all to have as American citizens, apparently. However, I disagree with the idea that all cheating is the death of all things good, if I remember correctly, some cheaters are the worlds best lawyers, doctors, bankers, and even presidents. Really, the only time that cheating…

I truly enjoyed reading your post. You made some very important points about domestic violence in the media, and the actions of the viewers in relation to domestic violence. I did not fully think about how domestic violence is somewhat covered up, not talked about, or either put as old news in the NFL. Based on that, that is not fair that women who may be victims to violence do not have the opportunity to speak out. It can be due to fear, or they are being paid not to say something to keep players careers from being in jeopardy.…

Infidelity seems to be a common thing in many countries, especially in America. It’s not even a topic that is sugar coated as it used to be; popular talk shows have capitalized on infidelity, and the complicated relationships that surround the topic, whole movies are based on the topic, and almost weekly another public figure is exposed on the cover of a tabloid for the scandal. While it is not something I am especially proud of I have directly been involved in more than one extramarital affair. In one instance the wife gave “permission” to the husband, and in another the wife had no idea the affair was happening. Regardless of the details between the spouses, one thing remains; while it may make a difference to the spouse, the act of having…

Infidelity in relationships has always been a universal problem and many researches have tirelessly focused their findings on this topic. However, there is little research done on whether or not infidelity is a cause or an effect of poor relationship quality in both dating and marital relationships. Because attitudes towards cheating in dating relationships and extramarital sex (EMS) continue to be negative, further and more specific research regarding why these actions occur, when ( before or after the relationship’s quality becomes poor), and how to prevent infidelity in a relationship need to be addressed. According to the Associated Press’s Journal of Marital and Family Therapy, 57% of men admit to committing infidelity in any relationship…
