In hindsight even though I explained how consumerism was less apparent in this era, it was definitely still apparent, this quote helps explain that “The more wants that are satisfied, the more new ones are born” (Holt, pg 21, 2000), because my interviewee is still a person when he moved to England and got a taste of consumerism the concept of buying something stood in his mind. When you move places especially into a consumer market like England, your mind learns to adapt to advertising because it is very apparent and there is in simple terms, more items to buy. “These advertising codes is critical to our daily routine of reading and deciphering ads” (Holt, pg 81, 2000), the more advertising you see the more consumed with it you become.
