The way women compared to men are being portrayed in social media, strengthens the argument that there is gender inequality in the workplace. Throughout the academic research, gender inequality in the workplace can be seen as more of an issue than it did when portrayed through social media. The public do not fully see the impact that gender inequality in the workplace has on women and how negatively it affects families. Many movies and television do not mention or show women earning significantly less incomes compared to men. Often, social media shows a man at work in a high-status, prestigious job, while the woman is at home taking care of the kids and the household by herself. The consistent exposure throughout social media of what an ideal society and family should look like, reinforces and further engrains society into believing in and following gender roles and stereotypes. Now more than ever, the opportunity for a woman to get a chance of receiving advanced education has become more accessible. Women are effectively utilizing the opportunities that have been emerging for them educationally over the recent years. Due to this increase of women entering into the workplace, women are now starting to delay marriage in order to complete their schooling first. Women desire to be more socially and economically independent, and receiving a bachelors or higher degree does indeed help them achieve this status. More time is put into their studies and focusing on getting a stable career, and often the thought of entering into the marriage market is no longer one of their top priorities. The delaying of marriage of women in the workplace can damagingly impact families because the longer women wait to get married, the longer they decide to bear children.
