Analysis of the Media Specialist & Media Program
On Friday, February 10, I met with the Media Specialist at Valley Elementary School in Jefferson, MD for 45 minutes. She is a McDaniel graduate and had no teaching experience before she became a Media Specialist. She loves being a Media Specialist and working with young children. This shows in her demeanor when she talks about her program.
I was immediately energized when I entered her space as it is attractive and fun. I wanted to bring my daughter there to take pleasure in the environment. There are comfortable spots to read, a makerspace area, and a plethora of books to enjoy. Goal #2: The school library program has a minimum of one full-time certified/licensed librarian supported by qualified staff sufficient for the school’s instructional programs, services, facilities, size, and number of teachers and students.
The School Librarian:
– will work with administration to ensure that the program is adequately staffed with professional and supporting staff so that the Media Specialist can complete her duties
– will create an environment of collaboration in which all staff members work toward the common goal of student learning
– will work in collaboration with each staff member
Goal #3: The school library program is built on a long-term strategic plan that reflects the mission, goals, and objectives of the school
