Reflective Essay On Visual Analysis

Writing is something that I have always dreaded, but at the same time enjoyed. I never actually noticed how much I enjoyed writing until Professor Clark, told us about her writing anxiety and how sometimes she just didn’t want to write, but its something she still loves to do. This was a huge step for me in realizing that just because I don’t like writing sometimes, doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy it overall. Along with this, this course and Professor Clark have helped me learn a lot about writing and the writing process.
Our first assignment, a paragraph about a major goal in my life, was one I was really excited to write and ended up with a B/B+ grade. I wrote my paragraph on a weight loss goal I had when I was only twelve years old. When I got this paper back, there was a lot of punctuation errors. The biggest error that was consistent was the lack and misuse of commas. In my one paragraph, I had eight comma errors alone. After this paper I worked hard to

I received an A/A- on this paper, which I was really proud of because I had a hard time writing this essay. The Visual analysis essay was one I struggled with at the beginning because I could not figure out how I wanted to structure my paper. I took this problem to Professor Clark and she showed me some examples and helped me with some ideas on how to set up my paper. I decided to use the first half of the essay to describe everything in the ad, and the second half to analyze what everything in the ad meant. I feel this essay was one of my strongest writings because of the detail in my description and the rationality of my analysis. I did forget to cite one of my sources in my text because most of this essay was my own ideas. All in all, I feel this essay was a great way to help not only our writing skills, but also to look at ad’s in a new way and realize what the company/brand wants us to

Amongst students, reading and writing are often considered more daunting tasks compared to speaking and listening. Although some have made the argument that writing in an educational setting is easier because it allows students to share their understanding in a private way the process of writing is considered strictly academic to some. Those who were lacking in writing skills, me included, can relate to the frustration of constructing an introduction paragraph, thesis statement, and so on. A majority of the time I spent writing my high school essays were actually spent erasing and rewriting sentences on subjects that I understood, but could never explain in an articulate manner. For that reason, how writing is handled in the classroom has been a main concern of mine since the beginning of this course.…

The lighting of this portrait is natural , broad light . The direction of light is coming from a 45 degree angle to the right. In the background there is part of the house, which is also lit, this could also be from the natural source of light reflecting onto it by the positioned light. The photographer has controlled the amount of shadows by the pose and the facial expression of the sitter and has used soft shadows , perhaps maybe using a diffuser to help soften these. In the portrait there is shallow depth of field however the background is not fully blurred out, only slightly.…

To be completely honest I have mixed feelings about writing and I don’t really have any memorable experiences that made me feel this way, it is just the experiences that I have had with the subject while trying to apply it. I struggle with what to write down mostly and creativity in general and I don’t really excel at any part of it. If I were to say I “excel” at anything it would be revising my work and adding to it. At the end of the semester I hope that I have relearned some key writing elements that lack of practice has caused me to lose.…

I had a hard time locating your thesis in your first paragraph. While you have a lot of great points, your thesis should be concise and correspond to your other paragraphs like a roadmap. There is also not a lot of tension in your thesis, you can create this tension by pointing out a flaw in the advertisement like the absence of mothers or how the commercial never explicitly states that their products lead to being a good father. I think you summarized and described the commercial very well with sensory images. If I had not watched the commercial and just read your paper, I would have a very great image of the scenes shown.…

At the beginning of the semester, I viewed myself as a creative writer. After attending this class I realized that there is a lot more that goes into writing an essay, or a research paper, than just creativity alone. I have learned that it is very important to be aware of my strengths and weaknesses in my writing. Taking this class has helped me understand the strengths and weaknesses in my writing skills, and it has given me the opportunity to strengthen the areas in which I was weak. An example of this is that I have become aware of my grammar and spelling errors as the semester progressed.…

This English class has been very helpful in my efforts to improve my writing abilities, but has also been very challenging due to there being a different median for every essay. It’s been a heavy work load especially this semester since I decided to enroll in five classes, but in the end it has been very beneficial indeed. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing.
