In my opinion, the most relevant bias is the “Bad News” bias. This bias is the idea that advertising bad news will bring good business because of our instinct to protect ourselves. Not too long ago America ran into an Ebola scare after citizens brought it back the states after a trip to Africa. Many were worried that it would become an epidemic, it became such an intense fear that a military team of 30 was created to track and treat those who got it. Another bias that I found significant was the “Visual” bias. This bias uses large headlines and photos to get the attention of its onlookers. I had a personal experience with this when I first learned about the Black Lives Matter movement. I knew very little about this movement until Beyoncé did the halftime show in 2016 that protested the police shootings of black men. I found the Gladstone bias to be very interesting in its layout but I personally struggled with the way she wrote the descriptions. The pictures and some of the text was funny while also being educational but when she went into examples, they were often vague. I was surprised by some of her facts about Washington creating political leaks and John Adams’ paranoia that cause the Alien and Sedition Acts. Overall I enjoyed this reading and I would be glad to read more Gladstone’s
