After her success at the second debate, awareness of her past time at Hewlett-Packard arose, and people continued to criticize her for her risky business tactics (Rogin, 2015). Due to her recent advances in the Republican Party, citizens have researched her political views, and some have become vocal in their concerns. The Washington Post interviewed several people at the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference in Escanaba, MI, one of which stated “I am concerned about one issue she doesn’t really touch on: immigration” (Mantela qtd. in Sullivan, 2015). However, sources such as hotair.com, The Chicago Defender, and Twitter allow for opinion-based news to enter media. Because of the nature of the individual sources, they are inclined highlight Fiorina’s success differently. Hotair.com, a right-leaning blog, frames their information to attract a conservative audience. This style of media allowed for Fiorina to be seen in a positive light among the conservative readers. The blog’s positive portrayal of Fiorina included her successful debate, after which she received the most Twitter followers as compared to every other candidate present at the debate (Ham, 2015). The Chicago Defender also uses framing to attract the African American audience of Chicago. Their use of framing, however, did not benefit Fiorina, as she was only mentioned for her false Planned Parenthood claims (John, 2015). The Twitter content was primarily opinion based.
