Media In Schools

Laura Lefkowits talks about social medias and different ways that we can use them. One thing she talks about is the purposeful communities that social media creates. Another thing that Lefkowits states in her article is that social media can correlate to school improvement. Laura definitely has some strong arguments and points but there are a few things that stretch the usefulness of social media in schools in her article A New Face for Schools. In the first section last paragraph, Laura talks about how the social networks can have a powerful effect on the achievements that students can have in our 21st century’s schools. Laura also says in the second section paragraph two that purposeful communities has an ability to develop and utilize all assets to accomplish purposes. I think this does not completely relate to the usefulness of social media to create these purposeful communities. In social media there are different assets such as cyberbullying and entertainment assets that don’t always have accomplishments. Another point that I think shows in Laura's section “The Power of Social Networks” is that i think she is trying way to hard to correlate social media to a positive thing. Although I do agree with her last paragraph in “The Power of Social Networks” section because Laura says the Social Networks could be used to raise money for sports programs through different surveys and ballots. Laura says another point in the last section paragraph two that students are constantly on the social media as much as they watch television. So if we utilized social media in school where students already do not want to be here, the students would be using the social media for things that they shouldn’t be. I …show more content…
