The media can play a critical role;it provides people with definitions about who we are as a nation, reinforces our values and what is normal, it gives us concrete examples of what happens to those who aren’t “normal”, and most importantly it provides people with certain ways to see the world and people within that world. The media provides people with images and descriptions of what people should look, and act like in society; telling people how society sees them. During this time people of color were consistently being portrayed in negative terms by media causing people to start believing that those people weren’t “normal” in the eyes of society.
