The CNN news coverage done during the attack shows the confusion of many including the news anchors. No one in America has a clear sense of what was happening or the cause of the attack. The CNN coverage shows videos of people close to the attack and surprisingly enough, the majority of them are calm and collected. CNN does not seem to be initiating the attack on any particular group or country. In the beginning of the video, it sounded as if the anchors were questioning if something went wrong with the plan mechanically. The media creates a lasting impression for its viewers, in the case of the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, the media coverage differed significantly during and after the attack. Media reports are the products of the work of journalists, who are often influenced by their own beliefs, ideologies or corporate pressures. The information and impressions provided are influential to the perceptions of the viewers. In the story of 9/11, the plot was “the unknown chaos” in the CNN coverage and “terrorist attack on America” in the NBC coverage. The characters in both news coverages were the American people—those whom were directly and indirectly affected. Mass media shapes our opinions on events which can eventually be interpreted as mediating
