Biased and partisan media platforms (such as FOX News) are more specifically to blame for this. It is honestly understandable that shows with an intended purpose to present the views of the host present this bias, but when it is intended basic media coverage only presenting to the viewers the opinions of the host as facts and not as opinion it is a disservice. It is leading the audience to think in a way they wouldn't if they had full knowledge. For instance, in Ferguson, Missouri last fall preceding and following the verdict that failed to convict officer Darren Wilson with the murder of Michael Brown, major news platforms showed one sided stories that depicted local peaceful protesters as criminals and thugs. The media portrayed the residents of Ferguson as violent and destructive protestors, when in actuality some were outside agitators who traveled to Ferguson to loot and elevated an already highly sensitive situation. These outsiders neglected to understand that the incidents similar to Michael Brown’s could be solved by the Ferguson citizens themselves. I could only hope that in the aftermath of this tragedy that residents would exercise their right to vote so that officials who are to blame for failing to convict officer Wilson are not able to hold office …show more content…
The constraints preventing this lie within a clouded sense of citizen rights and a clouded knowledge of culture.
