What is media? Media is a term derived from the Latin word medium that translates as a way of consuming, disperse communications. The media today is usually known as TV, radio, and the Internet. Social media is the preferred way to express and communicate with the majority of Millennials; this is due to the booming of technology in the last two decades. Although there’s a lot of benefits addressed to social media, like developing a “voice” to those who want to be heard and create audiences, as well as helping others to get together and create groups, and last but not least to help young people to become independent. Despite those “good” social media remarks social media can be bad for the youth, cyber bullying, the lack of communication with …show more content…
The idea of only click a screen and people could see their friends whose lives on the other side of the hemisphere through a camera; go and check what their family members of loved one wrote in their status; or simply communicate with their old class group after moving away for school sounds really amazing. Although these things are positive, now at days social media have become the major way to communicate among the youth; trivializing the way they interact with each other’s and the lack of connection that they have with reality. Is common to see young people holding their phone facing them as they walk around with their headphones on, or taking pictures of food before eating it during dinner, this is because now at day it has become imperative for Millennials to maintain their virtual life as they maintain their real life. This makes some of them to lack connection with real word. According to the American Psychological association 2011 article “Alone in the Crowd” the author expose how expert in social psychologist Sherry Turkle, PhD. Explains People at this moment are connected one to the other more than any other time this is due to the technological advances and the development of social media, and social networking, and actions like text messages, but at the same time they are more lonely and distant from one to another in reality. This is only of many ideas of the unbalanced teen perception of what communications could be held in society in today. Millennials prefer to edit their emotions than express how they feel instantly, as they prefer to be behind a led screen than have a real connection, becoming social in the virtual world and anti-social in the reality
