Media And Greed In America

The great Erich Fromm once said “Greed is a bottomless pit which exhausts the person in an endless effort to satisfy the need without ever reaching satisfaction.” This quote gives a great idea of how we as people countlessly want something, yet we are never satisfied, especially Americans. As a fellow American citizen, we are constantly consuming things we do not need but why? Why do we constantly obtain unnecessary accessories? American’s consume so much because we are influenced by media, influenced by society and greed.
First of all, Americans consume too much because of media. Every time you turn your head, you see an advertisement. The Merriam-Webster dictionary definition of an advertisement is “something (such as a short film or a written notice) that is shown or presented to the public to help sell a product or to make an announcement.”. Mr. Kalle Lasn sees advertising differently. We have all committed this selfish little crime. Greed, the devil’s easiest way to get to people. We’ve all done it, whether it was the last piece of candy or the last Benefit Roller lash. We will use people until we have it all. For example, when people get government assistance, some tend to be greedy and lie on their applications, They do this just so they can receive more money. Sometimes people can use greed to their advantage. For example if your in the store, you're looking for icecream but somehow you ended up on the candy aisle . You have plenty of candy at the house but for some reason you just had to get the last bag. We most definitely tend over consume when you find “deals”. For example , your mother is in Food Lion and she comes across the “Buy 10 for 10$” deal. She gonna run down that aisle at get the deal, even though you already have 10 cans of the
