I am Zipo Mangaliso, a recent BA Hons Journalism graduate from Staffordshire University applying for the Media and Communication intern role at Kick It Out.
As a passionate football follower from a young age I have been aware of the work of Kick It Out and the importance of promoting equality in football. I am an individual who truly knows the impact sport; in particularly football can play in removing discrimination and prejudice in society. I come from South Africa a country deep-rooted in racism and inequality but also a sport mad nation which has witnessed the powerful impact sport can play in society. Working within an established anti-discrimination organisation such as Kick It Out would play a significant part in my career progression

It was certainly an experience I enjoyed and it definitely assured me that a Communications and Media role would be a position I would flourish in. In October I joined Young Pro Magazine, which focuses on youth football and developing aspiring footballers as a Staff Writer and Social Media manager. During my short time there I have been responsible for updating the website on a daily basis with youth-related news stories whilst also preparing content for the upcoming print publication. Also I have been solely in charge of all the social media accounts, which has seen a steady increase in engagement and follower count on all platforms through to several social media strategies I put in place such as providing match updates from all England youth matches, wishing youth footballers happy birthday which often receives a large amount of response from football fans. I have used numerous tools to benefit me in my role such as Hootsuite and Google Analytics in order to drive traffic to the Young Pro website. Another responsibility for me has been arranging and conducting interviews so I have had to liaise with player agents, club media departments and various other
