Within the play “Antigone” both Creon and Antigone are displayed as strong-willed, principled, and complex individuals. Through the play we explore the consequences endured by the two opposing characters based on their actions; each displayed with a different set of beliefs and morals, against one another causing both a traumatic ending. Antigone and Creon are similar in some cases, they both stand confidently in what they believe in, even if it makes them allies. Antigone honors the beliefs of the gods and her family and thinks they are more superior then the laws of man. Creon orders Antigone not to bury her brother Polyneices and anyone who tries to bury his body will receive the death penalty. Creon believes that the laws of man are the

Even though Antigone show countless characteristics of a tragic hero, the actual tragic hero of this play is Creon. In this play we experience the conflict of male vs. female. Creon is a male ruler in the play who is the king and is responsible for the city. Antigone is a female in the play who has strong beliefs on sticking to family. Both have two different roles but soon begin to clash with each other. Antigone and Creon are both very devoted to their beliefs and bold. They both stood by their beliefs by any means. Unluckily, both of their acts ended in death. In a sense Antigone and Creon are somewhat alike. They both are honest, religious and want the best for their city. Also they both share a common characteristic which of stubbornness, which means if they believe in something they will stick to it no matter the outcome. Antigone can be seen as a hero in the play because she knew the consequences she would have to face after she buried her brother but she honored her commitment no matter what. After being put in jail by her own family member she was faced with no other choice but to take her own life. Creon, however is the true tragic hero in the play. Since no one supported Creon, he was tested with his own morality. After losing two significant people in his life, his views began to offset one another. In the end Antigone is seen as more admirable then Creon was because his excessive pride caused him to lose the people around him.
