During this week at my agency, I indulged in the following activities which includes; attending the team meeting, observed, sat in for intakes, med-checks as well as carried out a family therapy session. The first client scheduled for this week did not show up for session, but her mother called the agency stating that she forgot their appointment and rescheduled. On the other hand, my young client who is diagnosed with ADHD showed up for intake with her mother. Even though the agency already discussed privacy and confidentiality to the client’s mother, I re-assured her about this during the intake session. I also added that as part of confidentiality, when we come across each other at the store I will not say hi but will respond if she does; based on the knowledge gained from the my seminar class as well as ideas shared by my field liaison. The re-assurance made the client’s mother even more comfortable and happy to work with me. After the family session, I typed up a progress note in Patagonia the electronics medical system for billing as well as documentation purposes. …show more content…

There come times in individuals lives where they feel that a matter is out of their able hands and need the help of someone who is more knowledgeable and will be able to give them assistance. Individuals that seek help from professionals rightly expect that any information disclosed will be kept private. Confidentiality is a fundamental aspect of any professional-client relationship, meaning that professionals are obligated to maintain that the information of the client and any matters discussed remain under complete protection from outside parties unless legally obliged to reveal the information. It is important for professionals to find the balance between the duty to maintain confidentiality, and the loyalty to the legal system; only under…

First, starting with facts, we are aware that Susanna’s therapist told her parents about her diagnoses of borderline personality disorder without her consent. My response to this is the therapist should not have disclosed confidential information and should have provided consultation with Susanna first. This lacked complete disrespect for the privacy of the client. Looking at the code of ethics under 1.07 we know that a Social Worker should not disclose confidential information this includes everyone, including clients parents because she is no longer a minor due to her age. Looking at Policies, I am unaware of what the policy for the therapist might have been during the time period, but we know this would not be acceptable by today’s social work standards.…

The informed consent is like a contract that protects both the client and the therapist, it concerns the issues of confidentiality that is of special importance during our therapeutic work. Although psychologist Sean had knowledge that Will was a genius and had a wide range of knowledge, he should not assume that Will had knowledge about therapy and/or confidentiality issues. His failure of providing informed consent to the client and discuss it to make sure that the client understands his own rights violated the ACA code of ethics, as it stated in the code that “counselors have an obligation to review in writing and verbally with clients the rights and responsibilities of both counselors and clients” (American Counseling Association, 2014). In this case, Will is a client who had been mandated for counseling services, Sean as his therapist, should “explain what type of information and with whom that information is shared prior to the beginning of counseling” (American Counseling Association, 2014). Here, I recommend that in the future practice, therapists in this organization always provide clients with informed consent and thoroughly discuss it to make sure that clients fully understands their responsibilities and…
