Meat Processor Career Paper

The career that caught my eye was a butcher or meat processor. A butcher or a meat processor will cut, trim, bone, tie and grind meats such was beef, pork, and lamb ready to be cooked. A meat processor slaughters, weighs, wraps and labels the different cuts of meat. They will also prepare a special order or a special cut requested by the customer.
A butcher and meat processor would fall under the green agriculture, food and natural resources sector of the circle. It falls under the green because it would deal with agriculture as in farmers with livestock animals such as lamb, beef or pork. This job would also fall under the yellow portion as being an owner of my own business. This type of job deals with food by taking apart the animal that is brought in by the farmer and taking the meat and making it into food products. This career’s highest level of education required would be a high school diploma and small percentage of a college degree or higher. For the business part of the job you could take business classes that deal with book keeping, investing, and marketing your product. A person could also take some classes to learn a trade to be able to perform your own upkeep, such was electrical or plumbing classes. The wages of a meat cutter in the state of Nebraska yearly median is $27,450 was compared to the rest of the United States is

We currently have our own locker that is State inspected. The only downside is that we can not slaughter anywhere on the homestead and we do not have a place to hang the product for a period of time. Thanks to my father and grandfather, I have experience in the field of butchering and meat processing. My goal is to build or purchase a locker that could support a high volume of livestock at one time. I am currently pursuing a business opportunity to purchase an established locker upon graduating next

Many poultry farmers like Jerry and Kanita Yandell who have been baited into signing a contract with Tyson Foods inc. under the pretence of having a stable and steady paycheck. The overview of the contract between the corporations and the poultry farmers is quite simple, Tyson foods will supply the chicks and the poultry farmers are given the task to raise the chickens that are later slaughtered for meat. In return, the farmers are paid on a per pound basis.…

Livestock produces 116,000lbs of waste per second. Many people argue that gas from cars is causing the majority of pollution, the real reason is lack of room for cows to roam. The cows waste ends up in one area and seeps into the air, oceans, lakes, and rivers. It takes 1000 gallons of water for a cow to make 1 gallon of milk. 2500 gallons of water are used to produce 1LB of beef.…

When it comes to Global warming, being a vegetarian should be turned to as a first resort rather than going more toward the Prius, a car that has been made to cut vehicle emissions in half in an attempt to fight against global warming. Kathy Freston’s article “Vegetarian is the new Prius” caught my eye immediately when choosing an essay for the very fact that, I want Toyota Prius, and also because I’ve tried going vegetarian. Although I see nothing wrong with being a vegetarian, the lifestyle just didn’t work for me. I do to a certain extent agree with her argument because ever since I took ecology in high school, the environment has been very important to me, and I do what I can to help preserve it. Freston wrote that President Herbert Hoover promised a chicken in every pot and a car in every garage”.…

The faster the slaughterhouse functions, the more money it makes, but after a certain point, workers are increasingly likely to hurt themselves and others with knives, and also to pollute the meat when they fail to cleanly cut the intestines out of each cow. After the disclosures of The Jungle caused reform in government regulations of the slaughterhouses, meat workers became fairly skilled and well-paid in such areas as the cattle yards of Chicago. This all changed when competition led some companies to slaughter cattle in the West, with less skilled workers packaging the meat and delivering it directly to the supermarket, thus cutting out any need for a butcher. As companies like IBP sped up…

How to Cook the Perfect Steak in a Pan Some people classify their diets with “meat and potatoes”, vegetarian, or vegan. I am a meat and potatoes kind of girl, and steak dinners are a favorite meal in my household. My recipe for a perfectly cooked steak was influenced while having dinner at a restaurant in France. I ordered a well done steak and the waiter quickly asked, “Why do Americans insist on cooking all the flavor out of their steak?” Instead of my order, he served me a medium rare steak cooked to perfection.…
