Meat And In Vitro Meat

Decent Essays
Have you ever heard of test tube meat, cultured meat, and in vitro meat? These are all names that refer to meat grown in a lab. This meat grows through cultured muscle tissue from real animals. Some people believe that lab-grown meat has a variety of advantages for us and the world, while others believe it is the equivalent of playing “God” and should be immediately stopped. Cultured meat should be part of our modern society in the future for feeding the world’s growing population. Although in vitro meat is hard to create, it can be healthier and better for the environment and will generate employment for millions of people.

The meat industry is able to provide cheap and affordable meat to the consumers, that are unaware of the animal cruelty and environmental impact of the meat being purchased. Animals of the factory farms are by far the most disadvantaged. The animals of the factory farms are often treated harshly and have their bodies mutilated to prevent the animals from harming other animals, or to create room to fit the animal in their designated cage. In addition to the animals, the surrounding environment and people are also…

Do you really know what is in the meat that we eat? Eric Schlosser has written a book on the process of meat packing plants that begs the question (Fast Food Nation). His work bears a remarkable similarity to Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle written almost one hundred years ago. Schlosser wrote his book from a different approach but contains shocking information of how our meat is still processed today.…

It seems to me that in this world people are becoming more and more preoccupied with the food that they eat and unreasonably so if that’s possible. There even seems to be a cold war in effect between advocates of the “organic” movement and those who staunchly defend conventional practices. This proverbial war is being waged vehemently within the realm of meat production. As more and more horror stories circulate about just how the beef in our Big Macs and the chicken in our McChicken come to be more and more people have begun to advocate a better way. This “better way” is the not so new and, as I plan to vindicate, not so improved “grass-feed” approach, as opposed to the conventional Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation (CAFO) raised beef.…

Eating animals has been a regular meal for humans for many centuries, but it has also been opposed by veganists for many years. Although consuming animals has been opposed by vegan aficionados, it has also been a source of controversy because of how factory farming produces the meat we eat in our daily meals. In the book “Eating Animals” we get the sense that the author will be arguing and encouraging veganism, but instead he argues about how the meat we consume is produced. The author Jonathan Safran Foer’s main claim in the book is about boycotting animal factory farming and encouraging traditional husbandry because factory farm animals are stuffed with antibiotics, mutilated, tightly confined, and deprived of stimulation. While traditional…

When the words ‘cloned beef’ are said what comes to mind? Some scary sci-fi movie which cattle looking like Frankenstein are running around, a steak on one plate being replicated by huge machines on another plate, or some futuristic thing that’s too far fetches to need to think about. Now, what if I were to say, despite all the things sci-fi movies, activists, and scariest our ideas have told us, that none of these are true? Cloned beef is not something to fear. It is not something to be repulsed by, and isn’t something that should be banned.…

I believe that there is nothing wrong with eating meat because it has developed humans for millions of years and is also a natural occurring process. However, I do believe that the method of which we obtain our meat including factory farming is unethical and needs to be changed. The amount of respect that humans have for the animals we eat is miniscule, and it needs to be fixed. Similar to Pollan’s viewpoint on meat-eating and the process of obtaining meat, I believe that animal experimentation is for a good cause such as medical breakthrough and research for developing pathogens.…

Animal cruelty has always been a challenge that gets overlooked by society in the food market. Many people do not take into consideration the life of the cow, chicken, or pig, and lots of other animals, while enjoying their juicy hamburger, chicken leg, and bacon. “An Animal’s Place” by Michael Pollan argues about animal liberation while using support from Peter Singer’s “Animal Liberation” book. Peter Singer is pro animal rights and has converted lots and outs of people over to vegetarianism, while Michael Pollan loves steak and seeks to see if Singer could convert him as well. Our world changes consistently with the trends of our society, from the civil rights movements of blacks and women, to the legalization of gay marriage.…

The American society today has no idea where their food comes from. Most believe the propaganda that corporations use to portray their food is still farm grown. Meaning that food doesn’t come from factories and slaughter houses but are raised and grown on open green pastures with the sun always shining. In truth meat is a process of selective breeding and strict formalized procedures used to optimize the product. Many animals are confined to a small crowded pin to optimize the space used on these new age farms.…
