Measuring Academic Success

Decent Essays
A good indicator of my potential for academic success as a college student is my actual success as a high school student. Throughout my high school career, I have strived for excellence and challenged myself with honors and AP classes in preparation for college and I currently have a 4.15 GPA with a goal of graduating with a 4.5 GPA, or equivalent on the new grading scale. Although past academic performance is a good indicator and can help measure future potential, I believe the best indicator of my potential for high academic success as a college student and beyond is who I am as an individual.

I have always had a love for learning and with that comes a high level of commitment to education. I set high academic standards for myself, go to

What I hope to accomplish in the next five years is based off the knowledge I have up to this point, and has a good chance of changing due to future knowledge and opportunities, but the general outline of what I am hoping to accomplish will relatively stay the same. With that being said, what I am hoping to accomplish in the next five years, all takes place in college and 2 years outside of it. While in college, I am already pretty heavily involved outside of the class room, but I am always looking for opportunities to get more involved. With the things I am involved in, I am looking to take high up positions by the time I finish college. I am also focused on the most important part of college, which is the actual classroom.…

I believe an early collage student should be a a student of academic honesty and of responsibility. When it comes to academics I think early collage students should be honest with their grades because they are only cheating them selfs if they are not of academic honesty. Personal traits students should embrace to become a college student should include maturity, responsibility, and be studious. Maturity is a step in life which makes you a well respected person rather than a childish person, being a responsible student shows a personal trait in which you can become trusted and can also become responsible ones own actions and consequences you take upon yourself. When you are studious you are a student who studies and is hard working which is…

Colleges are not only looking for good grades and test scores for accepting students. Students with a more rounded background tend to be accepted at a much greater rate than those who have had limited access to experience. Being well rounded in school will not only help you in college, it will help you in the workforce. A teacher of mine has made this clear to a lot of his students. A big reason why he got hired to teach for this school was not because he only had a scholarship, it was because he had experience in theatre.…

I believe we should not let our circumstances define us and hold us down, but rather help drive us to make a greater future for ourselves and those around us. When I was a baby I was adopted by my grandparents. Due to the fact that my mother was schizophrenic, she was unable to care for me and my siblings. Although my upbringing was not traditional, I believe it not only gave me a strong sense of individuality and pride in education, but a very unique outlook on life in general. Education has been a very important part of my life from a very young age.…

The Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) has played a vital role in colleges’ selection process. At one time the SAT was held at great value in the scholastic world and students spent months preparing understanding their scores impact on their future. However, the SAT has proved to be in an inadequate measure of a student’s success in future academic endeavors and colleges are beginning to make submitting scores optional. The SAT needs to be abolished as a requirement for college admission because it is a misleading measure of intelligence. The SAT is deceiving because it strives to measure intelligence by assessing test-taking skills.…

The culmination of my parents excellent choice in schools and their motivation for academic excellence has instilled in me the drive to achieve academic excellence whenever possible. My first opportunity for a great education happened at Desert Garden Montessori or DGM. DGM is based on child directed learning where the child is given options which they choose their activity from and then the specialized materials required for that option are then given to the child for them to learn on their own with occasional guidance. With this kind of learning the children at DGM learn independence and responsibility through their education. The fact that my mother moved to the right neighborhood to where just down the street the school was located and she wanted me to have an excellent and diverse education helped me start a passion for learning at young age.…
